It’s no secret that some of the UK’s key communities are still sadly lacking in affordable rental homes. In recent years, housing associations have stressed the importance of these critical developments so they, in turn, can invest further in local areas.

For many years, Watson Homes has prioritised partnering with housing associations that align with our own key values: quality assured projects that provide residents with longevity and a lasting sense of community.

One area where we have made significant investment is Bolton, Greater Manchester. Bolton is home to a colourful and abundant history, once famous for its cotton mills. Its family-centric nature means there are plenty of local activities for those looking to settle a young family in the area, as well as being completely commutable to major cities such as Manchester.

Collaboration is key

We’ve worked alongside Bolton Council for several years now to help deliver its Local Plan on housing demand. Outstanding projects, including Shepherd’s Cross, Withins Drive and Chorley Street, have cumulatively created more than 300 homes for local people.

Working in collaboration with key partners, including Bolton at Home, Places for People and Irwell Valley Housing Association, has enabled us to ensure these living spaces provide residents with high quality housing which stands the test of time. We choose locations based on people-focussed requirements, often building near schools, medical centres and convenient public transport hubs.

Investing in areas where the lack of affordable housing has been recognised as a growing problem has become a key consideration for contractors like us. We’re extremely proud to have made such a lasting contribution to the Bolton community.

Our schemes in Bolton – and across the north west – are always designed with local people in mind and support growing, thriving communities. Looking to the future, we can’t wait to further develop our partnerships with local housing associations and see other schemes take shape.

We are in the process of working up planning applications for a further 334 units in Bolton, with a view to submitting these alongside our partners in the coming months. Watch this space!
